Senior Accountant


General Purpose


Responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyse financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures. Also has a role in providing compliance and business services to a number of clients and providing guidance and leadership on a day to day basis to a limited number of team members.


Education & Experience

  • Minimum four years’ experience in Australian public practice
  • CA/CPA qualified (preferred). Lesser qualifications considered where there is extensive experience
  • Knowledge of applicable business and tax laws, codes and regulations
  • Accounting degree (preferred) or diploma
  • Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles
  • Knowledge of economic principles
  • Knowledge of auditing practices and principles
  • Knowledge and experience of related computer applications.


Key Tasks & Main Responsibilities

  • Compile and analyse financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly and annual accounts
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
  • Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met
  • Prepare financial management reports including accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues, expenses and balance sheet items
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities
  • Continuous management and support of budget and forecast activities
  • Monitor and support taxation issues
  • Develop and maintain financial databases
  • Financial audit preparation and coordinate the audit process
  • Analyse and advise on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues
  • Analyse financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures, provide strategic recommendations and maintain solutions to business and financial problems
  • Perform complex tax computations and prepare income tax returns
  • Research complex tax law and communicate findings to clients and/or Partners
  • Mentoring to Graduate/Trainee Accountants.
